Ivory Aquino: First Trans Character Of DC Films

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Ivory Aquino will visit the DC world. However, Aquino has joined the cast of Batgirl, playing Alysia Yeoh, Barbara Gordon’s best friend and the masked hero played by Leslie Grace.

Ivory Aquino is most recognised for her role as Cecilia Chung.

She played a trans rights activist, in the ABC miniseries When We Rise, which aired in 2017. After actress Grace uploaded a selfie of the two of them together in an Instagram story earlier this month, word of her Batgirl casting spread quickly online. The news that Aquino has joined the cast was originally confirmed by Deadline.

The inclusion of transgender actor Aquino, who will play the first openly trans character in a live-action DC film. This marks a watershed moment for Warner Bros.’ DC Films division. Nicole Maines first appeared on the small screen in 2018 as the trans hero Dreamer on The CW’s Supergirl. The final episode of the series aired in November. In 2019, trans actor Zach Barack played Peter Parker’s classmate in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Batgirl to be soon released

Moreover, Batgirl is set to premiere on HBO Max and will star Brendan Fraser as a villain, as well as Michael Keaton reprising his role as Batman, which he first performed in Tim Burton’s Batman more than 30 years ago.

J.K. Simmons, who plays Barbara Gordon’s father, Commissioner Jim Gordon, is among the other cast members. Although Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the directors of Bad Boys for Life, are directing from a script by Christina Hodson, the writer of The Flash and Birds of Prey. Batgirl, which is now under development in the United Kingdom, has no scheduled release date.
